Finito for photographers

The shoot is two hours. The job is twelve.

A client sees the shoot. They don't see the prep, the drive, the selection and the editing. Finito tracks your studio's hours per job, so your price matches the work behind it.

30 days free, no meeting or credit card needed. Then from €8 per user per month.

Where a photographer's hours go

Ask a photographer how long a product shoot takes and they'll say half a day. Ask how long the job takes and there's a pause. There's the moodboard, the emails, loading the car, the drive, the shoot itself, the backup, the selection, the retouching and the delivery. Editing alone is often more work than the shoot.

Time tracking for a photographer makes that visible. Not because you want to bill every minute, but because you want to know whether your price per job still works.

A studio with a few people

Job as a project

Every job gets a project with an hours budget. You see along the way where you stand, e.g. 36:00 of 50:00, so 72%.

Shoot, travel and editing kept separate

Add them as tasks under the job. Afterwards you know which part ran over, and it's almost always the editing.

On location, on the phone

Your assistant starts the timer on the phone on arrival at the location. It carries on on the computer when they start the selection back at the studio.

Planning around shoot days

Put shoots and editing in the schedule by day, week or month. If a shoot gets rained off, drag it to another day.

A sample job

A made-up example: the New collection product photos project for a made-up interiors brand, a studio with a photographer, an assistant and a retoucher.

Preparation

Moodboard, arrangements and getting the kit ready: 3:30 on the Preparation task.

Shoot day

Drive, set-up, shoot and breakdown. Photographer and assistant each record their hours on the phone, 16:00 together. The day runs until 19:30.

Editing

Selection and retouching over three days. The retoucher sees the job at 41:00 of 50:00, with one more series to go.

Delivery

The job closes at 47:15. The hours per client are ready for invoicing, which you do in your own accounting software.

Weekends, evenings and travel time

A Saturday event, a sunrise shoot, a long drive to a location: photography rarely fits a fixed schedule. For your employees, the owner reviews every day that differs: overtime, flexitime, additional hours or no overtime. Overtime is tracked to the minute, no time worked is trimmed and time off in lieu comes off the balance automatically.

Whether travel time to a location counts as working time depends on the situation and your arrangement. Check with your social secretariat and then record it consistently as a separate task. Your social secretariat calculates overtime pay and premiums based on the payroll export.

Time registration from 2027

A small studio with staff is covered by the federal government's plans too: general registration of working time from 1 January 2027. Under the preliminary draft there's a transition period until the end of March 2027. No time clock needed. The final text isn't settled yet, so ask your social secretariat what applies to you.

Pro adds seeing per client what's left to invoice. If you work alone there's Solo: 1 user, just the timer, up to 10 projects. See the pricing.

Frequently asked questions

I work alone. Is it any use to me?

There's Solo: 1 user, just the timer and up to 10 projects, no tasks or export. When an assistant or retoucher joins, choose Team at €8 per user per month, with planning, tasks and project hours.

Can I track travel time separately?

Yes, add travel as a separate task under the job. Whether it counts as working time is something to check with your social secretariat.

Does Finito create the client invoice?

No. The hours per client and job are ready for invoicing. You create the invoice in your own accounting software.

What if I forget to start the timer on location?

After 10 minutes without a running timer you get a notification. Forgotten hours can still be fixed the same day.
