An extra hour isn't always overtime
Someone stays an hour longer on Tuesday to finish a job on site. Is that overtime? Does it fall under flexitime? Is it an additional hour because they work part-time? Or was it agreed there's no overtime because they finish earlier on Friday?
In practice that often only gets untangled at the end of the month, when nobody remembers exactly. Finito records the difference straight away, per day.
What this means for your business in euros and premiums depends on your joint committee and your agreements. Your social secretariat calculates that. Finito makes sure the hours they receive are right.
Types of hours in Finito
Overtime
Hours above the limit that applies to that employee, reviewed by the owner. They go onto the time-off-in-lieu balance.
Flexitime
With flexitime, people shift their start and end times within agreed limits. Finito tracks those hours separately, with their own balance.
Additional hours
A part-time employee who works more than their contract but stays within the limit works additional hours. Those aren't the same as overtime and are kept separate.
No overtime
Sometimes a longer day was simply agreed, or is made up elsewhere. Then you choose no overtime, and the entry still stays visible.
Time off in lieu
When someone takes time off in lieu, it's deducted from their overtime automatically. The balance is right without you doing the maths.
How to review a day that differs
The team records
Everyone uses the timer. Hours are final straight away; employees can only make changes on the day itself.
Finito shows the differences
If a day differs from the employee's schedule or limit, you see it in the overview.
The owner decides
Overtime, flexitime, additional hours or no overtime. No time worked is trimmed and the original entry stays visible.
Balances updated
Balances for overtime (time off in lieu), flexitime and remaining leave update straight away. After closing, everything goes into the payroll export.
Part-time and 4/5: daily and weekly limits
For a full-time employee the limit is usually clear. For someone on 4/5 it's different. Do they work one day longer than planned, or an extra day in the week? That decides what counts as overtime and what counts as an additional hour.
That's why in Finito you set up the arrangement for each employee: full-time or part-time, contract hours, a daily and weekly limit, and optionally a fixed schedule. Finito checks every day against that arrangement.
The limits for your employees are in the contract, the work rules and your sector's rules. If in doubt, ask your social secretariat. Finito applies the limits you enter.
Every arrangement gets a start date
People change arrangements. Someone goes from full-time to 4/5, or gets a different schedule. If you simply overwrite it, past months suddenly no longer add up.
In Finito, every arrangement gets a start date. If someone moves to 4/5 from 1 March, January and February are still reviewed as full-time and March as part-time. Past months stay as they were.
Registration is already required with flexitime
If you use flexitime, you already have to record working time today. From 2027 the government wants to extend that obligation to all employers.
